Mela Lane Remodel
The project is located in Rancho Palos Verdes, and entails the complete interior remodel of a 30 year old 3000sf single family craftsman/spanish hybrid style residence.  The scope of work focused on updating the finishes for the bathrooms, kitchen, fireplaces, flooring, paint, handrails, and included new lighting, relocated laundry area, and converted a non-naturally lit bonus room into a windowed 4th bedroom.  The scope of work is valued at about $200,000 worth of construction not including appliances.

In interior/exterior remodels or new construction, the architect needs to know what esthetic direction or "style" the client would like to pursure.  However, the husband/wife client were interested in divergent styles - he a coastal casual beach house and she a clean/modern and yet decorative leanings.  As such, we developed the general plan/scope of the modifications but allowed the style to simmer until they could come to an agreement as to how to acheive their preferences.  One day, I received an excited e-mail stating that they have found the style they wanted - "Transitional" a blend of contemporary and traditional style elements. At first, we divided up the different rooms and each was allocated a fair share of the scope with he was in charge of the kitchen and she in charge of the master bath.  As such the kitchen took on a traditional but clean interior of white shaker style cabinets, white subway tiles, and black caesarstone counter tops.  The master bath took on a clean light colored large format 16x16 limestone floor and wall, wall hung vanities, and frameless glass enclosed shower and toilet compartment.
